Falyn Ashley, Hopespring

When you walk into Hopespring, you’ll typically find Falyn cooking, singing, or enjoying the core members’ company. There’s an energy she brings into a room that is hard to describe but impossible to miss — warm, unhurried, and full of life. Falyn is one of those assistants who gets things done, but knows how important it is to slow down. That balance is rare, and she carries it naturally.
Woven into her very being is her compassion. Through her interactions with core members, she connects on a spiritual level — knowing what they need sometimes before they do. She knows their stories, their rhythms, what makes them laugh, and what turns a hard day into a good one. That kind of connection can’t be taught or rushed, and our core members are better for having her in their corner.
And then there’s her cooking. Walk in when Falyn is in the kitchen and you’ll feel it immediately — the warmth, the aromas, the sound of laughter floating through the house. She pours love into every meal she makes, and it shows on the faces of the people sitting around that table. Food has a way of saying you matter, you are cared for — and Falyn shows that every time.
Having been at Hopespring longer than anyone else on the team, Falyn carries a wealth of knowledge about our core members that is truly irreplaceable. She has walked alongside them through so much, and that history means everything — to them, and to all of us.
Recently, Falyn transitioned into a new role at Hopespring. This was not something she sought out, but something she gracefully accepted when it was handed to her — knowing that we would not have asked if she didn’t have our full trust and support. That moment is so very Falyn. She doesn’t seek the spotlight or the praise; she simply does what needs to be done, with care and without complaint. I truly feel that she embodies what L’Arche is: Community, Collaboration, and an unwavering contribution to something bigger than all of us.
Bobby Buchanan, Ananda

Bobby was one of the the first core members at L’Arche Tahoma Hope’s former children’s home in 1994 and he has been here ever since! Although Bobby is unable to speak with his voice he is full of laughter and smiles that are uplifting to so many people. Anyone who has spent time with Bob understands this joy. He loves to play piano,the kazoo or spending quality time with family and friends, showing great happiness when surrounded by so many people. He enjoys swimming, bubbles, the outdoors and sharing a meal with a friend. He really has a way of connecting people and putting people in a cheerful mood. Out in the outer community many say how they are so happy to be in their presence and are grateful for the opportunity to have known him even for just an hour.
