Carie Halle, Hopespring

Carie has lived at L’Arche Tahoma Hope since she was 15 years old! She has been through a LOT of changes and has met them all with a resilient spirit. Carie is a woman who holds a bit of mystery, as her means of communication are simply body language and blinking “yes” or staring for “no.” Yet somehow, this smart, vibrant woman has done the hard work of transforming hundreds of hearts over the years! 

Lately, Carie has been enjoying the sunny weather. She dons her sunglasses and goes for walks with longtime friend and assistant Jane. She has also been spending a lot of time reading devotional books with assistants, tapping into her deep spirituality. But don’t get too serious with Carie. This lady LIGHTS UP with pranks, practical jokes, pillow fights. Joy comes with chaos for Carie, and if she can have a hand in creating it, even better! 

Peter Borne, Hopespring

Peter has been an assistant at L’Arche Tahoma Hope for almost 5 years, but he’s been involved with the community for his whole life! Peter’s parents, Paul and Eileen, are former assistants, previous board members, and active volunteers around the community. Peter brings this long-running knowledge of the core members to work every day. When a core member is having a hard time, he can remind them of things that happened years ago, or help them reach out to an old friend. 

Peter is a huge support to the houses and the assistants. He has worked in all three of our houses, so he can fill in wherever there are gaps. He is helping to train and support a lot of new assistants as they learn all the various parts of their roles. Peter is also a part of an Inclusive Leadership Team with L’Arche USA. Along with one of our core members, he’s helping shape what it means to be truly inclusive, member-led communities in L’Arche.
