Advent is a season of waiting – an active, embodied waiting – and preparing the heart. What exactly are we waiting for? For some, Advent is about making room in one’s heart for God, and it is an invitation to live with a sense of great hope – hope that, even in anxious, uncertain, violent times – new life and light is being born into our beautiful, heartbreaking world. Advent also invites us into a time of listening and looking inward. What are our hearts longing for this season? How do we want to share love with one another? What does the darkness of this time hold for us? Where can we find light?
I hope you’ll ask yourself some of these questions over the next few weeks. What does this time of waiting hold for you? Will you try to really live this time of expectation of life and light to come? I hope you will find time to listen this season: listen when you are by yourself; listen when you are working on the farm; listen around the dinner table; listen to core members; listen during a WC class; listen to friends; listen to God; listen to yourself. May we all create just a little space in our hearts and our lives for new life and light this season. Christmas will be here before we know it.
Blessings of peace and hope to you this Advent season, and immense thanks to all of the writers, artists, and submitters of beautiful things that made this resource possible!
