L’Arche Farm and Gardens recently received a Sustainability Small Grant from the City of Tacoma. Because of this, the farm launched the Seeds of Sustainability: No Till Farming Initiative! 

As a part of this grant, the L‘Arche farmers introduced school groups from Bellarmine and Gates High School to the principles of the farming practice called “tilthing.” With this alternate method, farmers can protect the integrity of the soil from year to year. 

The farmers are very grateful for all of the students’ hard work and hope they can take what they’ve learned about sustainable farming practices out into the wider community. L’Arche Farm is ALSO very grateful to the City of Tacoma for the funds to pay for silage tarps and the tilther!
