Looking for meaningful work and a connection to a wider community that values inclusivity, personal growth and caring? You can step into a critical role of offering support and personal care to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) if they need it during the night. 

Asleep Overnight Assistants cover the night time shifts at L’Arche Tahoma Hope. Duties are very light and include responding to the occasional urgent needs of our core members with disabilities. These assistants’ tasks may also include some laundry and dishes. Otherwise, Asleep Overnight Assistants are free to relax or sleep during their shifts. 

Job Requirements

While the primary goal of Assistants is to develop mutual relationships with residents with I/DD, build community, and experience personal and professional growth, there are a number of responsibilities that accompany the role. Asleep Overnight Assistants are trained as qualified direct support professionals to provide support for residents with I/DD with infrequent evening needs. This might be support to the bathroom or a pain-relieving medication. Assistants also help with small household tasks such as laundry and dishes.

Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have an interest in building intentional community.
  • Show capacity for creativity, flexibility, attention to detail, and teamwork.
  • Desire to work and develop mutual relationships with people with disabilities. (Note: Prior experience working with people with disabilities is not a requirement.)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs (lift and transfer training provided)
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Valid driver’s license

Wages and Benefits

  • Wage is $18 per hour
  • 10hr/night from 9:00 pm-7:00 am
  • Up to 40 hr/week
  • Subsidized medical premiums start at 20 hr/wk schedules
